HEALTH IMPACT STUDY

There is a critical need to complete a scientific
health impact study to document the
effectiveness of the biosand water filter.  The
filter works and has been tested extensively by
MIT and others, however the Center for
Disease Control and Professor Mark Sobsey
from the University of North Carolina are
seeking funds to conduct a health impact study.
Rotary District 6290 supports this study and is
helping in the fundraising  effort.  The
following links from the Center for Disease
Control and Professor Sobsey clearly document
the need for the study.

Developing an in country infrastructure is
the challenge faced in any world
community service project.  The
development of the biosand water filter
project has been blessed with the
leadership of Bob Hildreth and
Jan
Tollefson, MD.  Both have provided the
leadership required to manage the
biosand water filter project on the
ground in the Dominican Republic.

60 % of the worlds population does not
have potable water represening 1.2 Billion

because of water borne illnesses.

During the past year Rotary District 6290
provided $135,000 to pucharse biosand
