UNIVERSAL DESIGN IN
RESIDENDIAL HOUSING
UNIVERSAL DESIGN

The Bodenner's are in the long-term care
business and recognize the need to develop
residential housing that eliminate barriers to
access.   With minor engineering changes
residential homes can be constructed using these
Universal Design features that will enable the
homeowner to live in their home for a lifetime.

The challenge we face is to educate
homeowners and builders on these simple and
affordable features.  The photographs shown in
the attached link are of a custom home built in
Rockford by the Bodenner's four years ago.
The same features can be built into an
"affordable home" and the Bodenner's are
working with
Holwerda Builders in Grand
Rapids, Michigan to design such a home for
their daughter who has a serious illness.  Proper
landscaping is critical as seen in the photographs
with landscaping provided by
Rickert &
Associates from Sparta, Michigan.

The attached  photographs illustrate how these
features can be incorporated into the design.
